Know the Council: TS CHE

No, this is not a Gujrati word but it is the name of the Council: Telangana State Council for Higher Education (TSCHE). Be prepared to read a lot of acronyms starting with TS followed by short-forms of the exam or the council!

So, coming back to the Council, TSCHE is an important part of the Government of Telangana that looks after the Higher Education in Telangana. One of the main jobs of the TSCHE is to ensure that entrance exams or Common Entrance Tests (about which you are going to read below) for admission to various disciplines are carried out in a timely manner.

Currently, the council consists of members who are also vice-chancellors of popular universities in Telangana like Satavahana University, Osmania University, Telangana University, Mahatma Gandhi University and Palamuru University.

Whether you choose undergraduate, post-graduate course in any discipline, TSCHE will make sure that you clear the common entrance test, designed for a specific discipline. They have a list of Common Entrance Exams which if cleared will guarantee your admission to a particular college of a particular field in the state of Telangana only.

To give you an idea, Telangana State Council for Higher Education conducts 8 Common Entrance Exams: TS EAMCET, TS ECET, TS EDCET, TS ICET, TS LAWCET, TS PGLCET, TS PECET, TS PGECET. So, these may seem like bunch of alphabets clubbed together, but if you be patient with us, these exams are pretty easy to understand:

TSEAMCET: Telangana State Engineering Agricultural and Medical Common Entrance Test or the TS EAMCET is conducted by Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad on behalf of TSCHE. This test is for admission to Engineering (E), Agriculture and Medical (AM) undergraduate courses like B.E/ B.Tech., B.Pharm., B.V.Sc. & A.H., B.F.Sc., B.Sc. There is a TSEAMCET-II also which is conducted for admission to only MBBS and BDS medical courses.

TSECET: Telangana State Engineering Common Entrance Test is conducted by JNTU for lateral entry or 2nd year entry to B.E./B.Tech., B.Pharmacy courses. Only B.Sc (Mathematics) degree holders and Diploma holders can apply for this exam.

In concluding, there is some course of some level (graduate and post-graduate) for everyone in Telangana. Students simply have to pick a course, be eligible for it of course, and sit for the TS CET (one which fits the course of their choice). The choice is entirely on the students. So which higher study option in Telangana will you choose?
