For many small business owners, the dream would be to have a piece of your marketing campaign go viral and bring a ton of money into your business. And while this has been the reality for some businesses, many small business owners are still waiting and waiting for their 15 minutes of fame from a viral video or another marketing piece. Luckily, there are a few things you can do to increase your chances of having some of your marketing pieces go viral.

To show you how, here are three tips for creating a viral marketing piece.

 Know Your Target Audience Well

While you might think that aiming to have your marketing pieces targeted at everyone would bring in more people to you, it’s really marketing pieces that are targeted to a specific group of people that tend to be more successful. But in order to find the ultimate success, Dominique Jackson, a contributor to SproutSocial.com, shares that you have to really know your target audience well. The better you know your target audience, the better you’ll be able to cater your message and all other aspects of your marketing piece to them. And when you can really resonate with your audience, that’s when something has the best chance to become viral.

 Include An Emotional Element

One of the best ways to make an impression on your target audience is to ensure that you include an emotional element in your marketing piece. According to an article published on SmallBizTrends.com, marketing pieces that rely solely on information often don’t get the response the business is looking for. But when you’re able to be humorous or sentimental and play on the emotions of the people viewing your piece, they will feel much more invested in your campaign, which can go a long way toward helping something become viral.

 Aim For Simplicity

Although you may want to include everything you possibly can in your marketing piece to help get your point across, being too complicated or preachy in your marketing piece won’t help your ideas to go viral. In fact, Deep Patel, a contributor to Business2Community.com, writes that your audience will often appreciate a simple marketing piece over a complicated one. When something takes too long to digest or is too overblown with the brand or sales information, it’s almost impossible for your audience to connect with it on the level they need to in order to make the piece viral. So rather than going overboard, try to keep your point simple and your branding to a minimum.

If you want your business to find marketing success through going viral, use the tips mentioned above to help you do just that.
