Though there is no one way to create a successful business website, there are a few components of design that have been proven effective by all those who have come before you.  Designing a business website is, in a sense, a part of designing your business’ marketing plan.

The point is that your business website should be designed to draw in viewers.  It should be designed to please and engage visitors.  Here are a few helpful tips to get your mind heading in the right direction before you begin building your own version of a successful business website.

Navigational options should be easy to follow

Your business website should be designed in such a way that it is easy for new users to understand how to get around to different areas of the site.  For instance, you may want to put a running navigation bar across the top of your design.

If a visitor is checking out a page explaining one of your company’s products (like this example page has done), they should easily be able to figure out how to get back to your homepage should they choose to do so.

Learn everything you can about SEO

Search engine optimization is the key to boosting your business website’s visibility to web users.  If no one can find your website, then you can probably count on a lack of success.  You need to design your website in such a way that it looks good to the search engine algorithm bots.

Ranking higher in the SERPs is what SEO is all about.  The first page of the results on a search engine is where you want to be, and SEO will get you there.

Optimize your design for mobile access

Mobile access to the internet has far surpassed that of PCs and laptops.  If your website is not optimized for mobile access, then you are missing out on a large portion of the internet’s population of users.

Research ways to design your website in such a way that there is no need to pinch or swipe while viewing the pages.  People will get easily frustrated with your website if it is not optimized for mobile use, and they will quickly move on to another destination.

Integrate the use of social media share buttons

Social media share buttons are your bread and butter when designing a business website.  You want your viewers to be able to share on a whim.  When they see something they like, there should always be the opportunity to link that “something” to their social media profile.

The best place to incorporate the use of social media share buttons is at the top or bottom of your business blog posts.  Make sure your website has a blog.  It too is a powerful marketing tool for your organization.  Learn how to use your blog before building a collection of posts.
