Those kids are the inroads to families with discretionary income to spend on any number of products — both personal and business related. You will be surprised to know that they own several online business accounts to fund their shopping sprees. They post pictures of products or business that they like on Instagram.

How to Interpret Instagram

Instagram is full of information about the people that take pictures and post to it. As a matter of fact, the reason that the makers of Facebook invested in Instagram is based upon the colloquialism that “a picture is worth 1000 words.” Not only do people showcase the products that they believe in on Instagram, but they do so in a much more natural fashion than on any other medium.

On Instagram, you do not have to worry about people filtering themselves as with a text based survey on a product. Even in focus groups, people will often take their cues from others in the room. Online, people tend to be overly negative about products, only posting when they have a legitimate problem. This does not help companies that are not necessarily messing up big time.

When you are interpreting Instagram, look at the products that people are interacting with naturally. You can interpret the facial expressions of people as they interact with the product in order to see how deep the connection goes. You can also see how the product is used – is it shared? What environment is the product being enjoyed in? Are people putting the product to a different use than the one that the company had in mind?

Instagram and its connection to online business

Using Instagram, you can also determine the best way to entice users to use your service or products. There is nothing better than understanding exactly what a person spends its money on. You can also target specific users by keywords if you are able to cross reference those keywords with the rich kids’ Instagram pictures.

For instance, one company was able to create a loan campaign that was directed specifically at families with kids who were looking to go to college soon. The company targeted the hash tag “senior vacation” in order to find high school kids who were on their summer vacation before starting college. They were able to secure the business of many well off families who had not found a lender that they were satisfied with.

There are many opportunities for this kind of creativity using Instagram. All that you need is a keen eye and a knack for choosing keywords that your audience might use!
