For a long time TV channels have wanted to brand themselves apart from others using ‘idents’. Idents are the clips you see between programmes clearly branding the channel you are watching. The use of this method of branding has become ever more popular with different TV channels, due to the rise in the number of channels available to the viewer now (what with digital channels becoming a popular fixture in people’s lives).

Over the years I have seen lots and lots of idents, and have come to conclude that the nature of this branding has become more creative and inspiring for the viewer. They are now seen as a short piece of entertainment in itself, aimed to keep the viewer tuned into the same channel for longer. I think this type of branding is very clever because the ideas are limitless, which makes the creative process very fun!
